International Students (F-1 Visa)

 

Western Texas College welcomes international students from all over the world and has an average of 50 international students on campus each year, including both athletes and non-athletes. As an international student, we think you’ll find our college to have just the right mix of cultural diversity while still maintaining small class sizes and a friendly atmosphere.

International Applicants should submit the following:

1.  Application for Admission - Complete and submit the Application for Admission via email to international@wtc.edu or via fax to 1-866-265-9240. 

2.  Passport CopySubmit a copy of the biographical page of the passport.

3.  $100 Application Fee (non-refundable)

4.  Official High School / Secondary School Transcript(s) - These documents must state the month and year of graduation. The official transcript must be an original document and must include an original signature of a school official and/or an original school seal. Transcripts in any language other than English must be translated into English by an official records translator and certified for authenticity.

5.  Official College Transcript(s) – Students who have previously attended another college or university, official transcripts will need to be sent. If the college or university was outside of the U.S., WTC cannot accept foreign college credit. However, if you are an athlete, you must still submit these transcripts for athletic purposes. If the transcripts are in a language other than English, they must be translated by an official records translator and certified for authenticity.

6.  Proof of English Proficiency – Official TOEFL scores must be submitted and should be sent directly to Western Texas College using the institution code of 6951. Neither the TOEFL ITP nor the IELTS tests will be accepted. Please reference the chart below to see the TOEFL requirement needed for admission.

7.  Exemptions:

  • Students who have achieved a grade of B or better in a college-level English composition course in residence at an accredited U.S. college.
  • Students who have successfully completed at least one academic year of study at an accredited high school in the U.S.
  • Students from one of the following countries, or citizen of a country where English is the official language:

9.  Housing Deposit of US $250.00

10.  Insurance/Contingency Deposit of US $1,000.00 - This deposit covers medical insurance for one academic year. Any remaining funds will be held in reserve for emergencies or to pay unforeseen expenses. Students who submit documentary proof of medical and accident insurance coverage, including coverage for medical evacuation and repatriation of remains, may have the insurance deposit waived.

12.  Immunization Records – Scan and email copies of all immunization records since birth. Records must include a visible name on the document. The bacterial meningitis vaccine is required in Texas for students under the age of 22 and must be received within the last five years. If you have not had the bacterial meningitis vaccine, please contact the International Student Services Director for more information. There are many types of meningitis vaccines available, and these vary from country to country. In addition, all international students must have a Tuberculosis (TB) skin test and must submit the results of the test. 

13.  Verification of Financial Support - Students must verify that they will have sufficient funds available to pay educational, living, and other expenses while they are studying at WTC. The estimated cost for the 2023-2024 academic year is US $15,705.00. (*This amount may be different for students on athletic scholarships.) The estimate includes tuition, fees, books/supplies, and insurance for one academic year of study (nine months) and living expenses for one year. The Verification of Financial Support form must be completed and signed by the student and his/her sponsor, and official documentary evidence of the availability of funds must be attached

14.  Transfer Students – Students transferring in from another college or university should complete all of the requirements above and will also need to complete the Transfer Form. A copy of the F-1 visa, the most current I-20, and the unexpired I-94 should be emailed, as well.
